Why I Stopped Assuming Prysmian Cable Is Always the Best Choice

Let me start with a confession: I don't believe Prysmian cable is the right choice for every project.

The Surprising Truth: Sometimes Prysmian Isn't Right

If you're running a temporary power line for a construction site that will be torn out in six months, do you really need a cable with a 30-year lifespan? Probably not. A cheaper basic cable would do the job. Dealing With the Pushback

I can already hear the objections. 'Prysmian is a global leader in cable manufacturing. You can't go wrong with them.'

I agree – if you need long-term reliability, global support, and consistent quality across multiple sites. If your project has those demands, Prysmian is a genuinely solid choice. I've used them for clients that need a warranty they can rely on for decades.

But 'global leader' doesn't automatically mean 'right for every job.' The key is to stop thinking in brands and start thinking in application requirements. Once you know exactly what you need, you can evaluate whether Prysmian's premium is justified – or whether you're just buying brand security.

Where I Landed

After eight years and twelve documented mistakes, I've come to believe this: the goal isn't to find the best cable brand in the world. It's to find the cable that meets your real requirements without wasting your budget.

Prysmian cable is excellent for many things. I'll continue to specify it when the application demands high reliability and verified compliance. But I'll also continue to recommend cheaper alternatives when they're genuinely good enough. That's not a betrayal of the brand – that's the job.

If you're a procurement person reading this, start by defining your actual operating environment, required certifications, and lifespan expectations. Then compare options. If Prysmian fits, great. If it doesn't, don't force it. Your budget – and your project timeline – will thank you.
